There are many different ways that a web developer can pay to advertise their site. Care should be taken to ensure that any payment for advertisement will be profitable. Commercial sites regularly pay for advertising though non commercial sites may benefit from an ad campaigns eg. to launch a new site.
- Affiliate Program - Merchant - By launching a merchant affiliate program you will only pay for results. The most common ways of rewarding your affiliates for promoting your site is
- Per Sale : You pay the affiliate a certain amount or percentage per sale of your product.
- Per Lead : You pay the affiliate for some sort of lead to your site, for example a vistitor signing up to your newsletter
- Per Click : You pay the affiliate per unique visitor send to your site. Not as common as it once was. Very few companies use this method now.
- Affiliate Program - Ad Serving - In this method, your site is advertised throughout the sites publishers. You pay the affiliates by one of these methods :-
- CPM : Stands for Cost Per 1000 Impressions. So if a publisher displayed your ad 10,000 times and your CPM was $5.00 you would pay the affiliate $50.00.
- CPA : Cost Per Action
- Pay Per Click Search Engine -Search engines allow you to advertise in their sponsored link sections. The cost of the link depends on how competitive the search word is. Good examples are Overture and Google.
- Directly on another website - This can be either for a fixed length of time or a set number of impressions. Mare sure that the site offers a good monitoring system so you can see how good ad placement is.
