Firstly, make sure that you've had a quick read of our Pay for Advertising section.
There are many ways to sell the advertising space on your site. One method is to fill the space up with affiliate links. For a list of affiliate networks please visit AffiliatePrograms. We will assume at this point that you have signed up for affiliate programs before and understand how they work and concentrate on helping you sell your advertising space directly (If not please read our Affiliate Programs section).
Information, Information and More Information
Before approaching a possible advertiser on your site you need to gather as much information about your site as you can. This is sometimes known as a Media Kit. The bigger your site, the more information you need to gather.
- Unique Visitors : Number of unuqie visitors to your site.
- Impressions : The number of impressions your site generates of a set period of time.
- Site Demographics : Larger sites will have to give statistics on their demographics. These include average age of visitor, percentage of males/females etc. The more info the better.
- Cost of Advertising : They will obviosuly want to know how much an ad on your site costs.
- Method of Payment : Do you accept credit cards, paypal?
Contacting the client
Similar to exchanging links, the best method to contact a client is either through a webmaster forum or directly via email. There are companies on the web who will act on your behalf and find you a customer in exchange for a fee or a percentage of a sale though these are only really applicable to large companies.
Once a deal is closed, do your best to keep the customer happy. Answer any of their questions as quickly and as well as you can. Happy customers will come back again and again to advertise with you which will save you a lot of time in the future. If you can, install an ad monitoring system like PHPMyAds. Not only will it allow your client to monitor their stats, it will also present a professional image of your site. Good luck!
