Scripts are a great way to spice up your site and add more functionality or content for your visitors. Scripts on the web tend to be in one of these categories :-
- Open Source - Nearly all of these scripts have the GNU General Public License. For a full explanation of this license please go here. In more basic terms, it allows you to use the software for free and even modify the code as long as you adhere to certain restrictions of the license. For majority of webmasters though, you dont have to worry about it - all you need to know is that the script is free to use.
- Free Scripts which you have to keep a link back to the writer - There are many scripts which are avaiable for free from the person who wrote the script. Most of the the time the only thing you have to do is place a link back to their site or just leave the script intact on your site. The script will usually have a copright comment on it so that if anyone ever checks the source of your code they can see who wrote it.
- Commercial/Paid Scripts - There are countless script companies on the web who make and sell scripts. The prices of which range from as low as $10.00 to over $1000.00. Support is usually given for a set or indefainte time.
